Building Community Through Intergenerational Housing

For youth aging out of foster care or experiencing homelessness, finding a stable place to live can be one of the most challenging steps toward independence. Orangewood Foundation is proud to bring our expertise and services to the Richard Lehn Intergenerational Campus, in partnership with Illumination Health + Home, helping young adults thrive in a safe, supportive, and multigenerational community.

Set to open in early 2026 in Santa Ana, the campus will bring together older adults, transitional-aged youth (TAY), families, and children under one roof. This innovative model not only addresses housing insecurity but also fosters connection, mentorship, and shared learning across generations—creating a community where residents support and uplift one another.

At Orangewood Foundation, our work centers on delivering meaningful services and programming for transitional-aged youth, with the following highlights representing just a few of the many supportive services we aim to make available at this campus:

  • Career and job readiness support, helping youth explore opportunities, build professional skills, and connect with employers.
  • Educational guidance, supporting youth in college, certificate programs, and other post-secondary goals.
  • Life-skills development, including budgeting, tenancy skills, and self-advocacy, equipping residents to live independently.
  • Community integration, creating opportunities for mentorship and social connection across generations.

By embedding our services within the intergenerational campus, we’re not just providing housing—we’re helping young adults build stability, confidence, and the tools to thrive. This partnership demonstrates the power of combining housing with comprehensive support to create long-term impact for youth and the broader community.

We are honored to work alongside Illumination Health + Home, the Samueli Foundation, CalOptima, the City of Santa Ana, and other partners who share our vision for compassionate innovation. Together, we’re building a model for housing and services that strengthens lives and communities.
